Evidence Doesn't Change Lives. Presence Does.

If you've spent any time around mediumship, you'll know how much emphasis we place on evidence.

And rightly so.

Evidence matters.

It's what helps us identify the Spirit communicator. It's what builds trust between the medium and the sitter. It's what allows someone to recognise the person stepping forward from the Spirit world.

I'm an evidential medium.

I always will be.

But over the last few years, Spirit have taught me something that completely changed the way I work.

Evidence is only the beginning.

It isn't the destination.

When did mediumship become a shopping list?

Somewhere along the way, I realised I'd started making mediumship all about collecting evidence.

More names.

More dates.

More memories.

More facts.

Without even noticing, I'd slipped into asking Spirit for more proof, more proof and... just one more piece of evidence.

The funny thing is, I didn't consciously choose to work that way.

It happened gradually.

I wanted to become a better medium.

I wanted to give my sitters the strongest evidence I possibly could.

Those are good intentions.

But they led me somewhere I never expected.

I stopped listening.

Spirit gave me a telling off

One day, my Spirit Guides pulled me up on it.

They pointed out that I'd started making my mediumship about me.

Not deliberately.

Not because my ego had run away with itself.

But because I was so focused on proving my mediumship that I'd forgotten who the reading was actually for.

That wasn't an easy lesson to hear.

But it was true.

I realised I'd become so busy asking Spirit for evidence that I wasn't leaving enough room for them to simply communicate.

Evidence opens the door

Think about it this way.

Imagine someone knocks on your front door.

You look through the window and recognise them.

Great.

Now you know who's there.

You don't spend the next hour asking them to show you their driving licence, passport and birth certificate.

You invite them in.

Evidence works in exactly the same way.

Its job is to identify the Spirit communicator.

Once they've been recognised...

Surely the real conversation can begin.

Why people really book a reading

People often tell me they want evidence.

And I believe them.

But I also think that's only part of the story.

Underneath that request is usually something much deeper.

They want to know their loved one is okay.

They want to know they're still connected.

They want to know they've been seen.

They want to know they were loved.

They want reassurance that they're making the right decisions.

They want permission to move forward without guilt.

That's what they're really hoping to leave with.

Not a list of facts.

A feeling.

Information plus presence

One of the biggest shifts in my own mediumship came when I stopped seeing evidence and presence as separate things.

Now I think of every reading as having two conversations.

The first is verbal.

The evidence.

The memories.

The descriptions.

The information that allows someone to recognise their loved one.

The second conversation happens without words.

It's energetic.

It's the feeling of love filling the room.

The quiet certainty that someone hasn't really gone.

The sense of recognition that arrives before logic can explain it.

That's presence.

And I think that's where transformation happens.

We spend nine minutes proving Spirit are there...

...and one minute letting them speak.

I see this all the time when people are developing their mediumship.

They're so desperate to get enough evidence that they use almost the entire reading proving who Spirit are.

Then, with a minute to spare, they squeeze in a quick message before the bell rings.

I understand why.

I've done exactly the same thing.

But imagine if it happened in reverse.

Imagine if you recognised Spirit halfway through the reading.

How much more time would there be for the conversation that actually matters?

The message is why they're here

If I were in Spirit and one of my children came to see a medium in ten years' time, of course I'd want them to know it was me.

I'd bring evidence.

I'd remind them of shared memories.

I'd mention the little things only we'd understand.

But after that...

I wouldn't want to spend the rest of the reading proving myself.

I'd want to tell them I hadn't missed their life.

I'd want them to know I'd seen every milestone.

Every heartbreak.

Every celebration.

Every moment they whispered, "I wish Mum could see this."

I'd want them to know...

I did.

That's the message.

That's why mediumship matters.

Presence can't be faked

Here's the beautiful thing.

When you stop chasing evidence and start trusting Spirit, something extraordinary happens.

The evidence often becomes stronger.

Not because you're trying harder.

Because you've relaxed enough for Spirit to lead.

Sometimes the most extraordinary evidence begins with something that feels incredibly ordinary.

A feeling.

A colour.

A simple memory.

A sentence your logical mind almost dismisses.

If you trust it...

Spirit often unfold it into something remarkable.

Don't lose the magic

I think, as mediums, we're always trying to improve.

That's a good thing.

We should keep learning.

Keep refining.

Keep stretching ourselves.

But somewhere in that pursuit of excellence, we have to be careful not to lose the very thing that drew us to mediumship in the first place.

The wonder.

The love.

The feeling.

Because mediumship isn't simply about proving that life continues.

It's about allowing someone to experience that truth for themselves.

The readings people never forget

Years from now, most people won't remember every piece of evidence you gave them.

They probably won't remember every date, every name or every detail.

But they'll remember how they felt.

They'll remember the moment they recognised their dad's sense of humour.

The warmth they felt when their grandmother came close.

The peace that arrived when they realised love hadn't ended.

That's what stays with people.

Not because evidence isn't important.

Because evidence created the opportunity for presence.

Mediumship is a reunion

Perhaps that's the simplest way I can explain it.

Mediumship isn't about collecting facts.

It's about reuniting people.

Evidence introduces everyone.

Presence allows them to embrace.

And that's where the real magic begins.
