The first link is a pancake
You know when you make pancakes and the first one comes out wrong? Wonky, gooey in the middle and burnt on one side?
Hannah’s first link of the night is very often her first pancake. It does the job. It’s rarely her best work. And if you don’t know that, you’ll walk off after your first link convinced the whole night is doomed.

Why I Wrote This Book
At the end of the platform chapter in Evidential Made Simple, I made a promise. Everything else, from warming up an audience to switches to what to do when a room goes quiet on you, was for the next book. This is it.
I absolutely love being on stage. I also wonder why the heck I’m doing it about thirty seconds after I walk out. This book is everything I’ve learnt from the good nights, and an awful lot from the nights that went wrong, because those taught me more.
Platform works differently from a one-to-one. The need is with you, not the sitter, and your first job is finding out who the spirit is for. Once you understand that, the pressure changes completely.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to want to be a platform medium?
No. Hannah once told someone she’d never become one, and then did. She does recommend trying it, though, because working under that pressure improves your one-to-ones too.
​
How do I deal with nerves before a demonstration?
Hannah still has proper fight or flight every time. Instead of trying to get rid of nerves, she prepares her energy with loud music, her walk-on routine and one breath, then starts talking before she feels ready. In her words: go faster than your fear.

What should I do when nobody claims a spirit?
Go back through the evidence, hold your nerve, and never send the spirit away. Hannah believes spirit don’t make mistakes, and some of her most powerful evidence was claimed at the interval or days later, by people who were too shocked or upset to put their hand up.
​
What is a switch in mediumship?
A switch is when the spirit you’re working with turns out not to belong to the person you’re working with. Either the link moves to someone else, or a different spirit steps in for that person. It happens to every demonstrating medium, and there’s no shame in it.
​
Does this cover church mediumship?
Hannah runs her own shows rather than working in Spiritualist churches, so some of what she teaches may differ from church tradition. The foundations apply wherever you demonstrate.
