A Mediumship Reading Isn't the Destination

I think we sometimes ask mediumship to do something it was never meant to do.

We hope a reading will answer every question.

Take away every fear.

Heal every wound.

Tell us exactly what to do next.

And if you've ever felt that way, I completely understand.

When we're grieving, searching or longing for reassurance, it's natural to want one experience to change everything.

Sometimes it does.

Just not in the way we expect.

What is the purpose of a mediumship reading?

For me, the purpose of evidential mediumship is beautifully simple.

To demonstrate that love continues.

To show that consciousness survives physical death.

To remind us that our relationships don't end just because someone's body has.

That's extraordinary.

But it isn't the end of the story.

In many ways...

It's the beginning.

What happens after you've received the evidence?

This is the question I think we ask far too rarely.

You've had the reading.

You've heard things nobody else could have known.

You've felt your loved one's personality shining through.

You leave with tears in your eyes and your heart feeling a little lighter.

Then you wake up the next morning.

Life is still waiting for you.

The washing still needs doing.

The dog still needs walking.

Work still expects you to turn up.

The reading doesn't remove you from ordinary life.

It invites you back into it.

A reading should change how you live, not just what you believe

When people ask me what the greatest gift of mediumship is, they often expect me to say it's proving life after death.

Of course that's incredible.

But I think the deeper gift is what happens afterwards.

If you truly believe your loved one is still with you...

Do you become a little braver?

Do you stop postponing things quite so much?

Do you find it easier to forgive?

Do you spend more time with the people you love?

Do you stop worrying about the things that don't really matter?

Those are the changes that fascinate me.

Don't keep standing at the doorway

Imagine somebody opened a door for you.

On the other side was certainty.

Hope.

Reassurance.

Love.

You step through.

Then instead of exploring what lies beyond...

You spend the rest of your life standing in the doorway, looking backwards.

That doesn't make much sense.

Yet I think that's what we sometimes do after a powerful reading.

We keep trying to recreate the experience instead of allowing it to transform us.

Mediumship should lead to trust

At some point, evidence becomes trust.

Just as every relationship eventually moves beyond introductions, our relationship with Spirit deepens too.

You don't need your best friend to introduce themselves every morning.

You already know who they are.

Perhaps our relationship with Spirit is meant to become like that.

Quieter.

Steadier.

Less dependent on extraordinary moments.

More rooted in quiet certainty.

The real work begins afterwards

The reading is the spark.

What you do with it is entirely up to you.

Do you carry that reassurance into your everyday life?

Do you become kinder to yourself?

Do you stop fearing death quite so much?

Do you allow yourself to laugh again?

Do you begin trusting your own intuition?

Spirit can open the door.

Only you can choose to walk through it.

Don't spend your life collecting proof

I understand the temptation.

Another reading.

Another sign.

Another feather.

Another piece of evidence.

But there comes a point where collecting proof stops helping us grow.

Not because proof isn't valuable.

Because it has already done its job.

The invitation now is to live from what you know, rather than constantly searching for more.

Mediumship isn't an escape from being human

One of the things mediumship has taught me most powerfully is that spirituality isn't about escaping life.

It's about embracing it more fully.

You'll still experience grief.

Joy.

Disappointment.

Excitement.

Fear.

Love.

Loss.

Spirit don't remove us from the human experience.

They remind us that it's worth living.

Let the reading become part of your story

The most meaningful readings I've ever given haven't ended when the client walked out of the room.

They've continued for years afterwards.

Not because that person kept coming back.

Because they started making different choices.

They worried a little less.

Loved a little more.

Stopped waiting for permission to be happy.

That, to me, is where mediumship becomes truly life-changing.

Not in the evidence itself.

But in the life that grows because of it.

The destination was never the reading

Perhaps we've been looking at mediumship the wrong way round.

The reading isn't the finish line.

It's the starting line.

It's the moment someone stops asking,

"Do they still exist?"

and starts asking,

"How do I want to live now that I know they do?"

To me, that's one of the most beautiful shifts a person can make.

Because mediumship was never meant to keep your attention fixed on the Spirit world.

It was always meant to help you return to this world...

...with a little more hope, a little less fear, and a much greater determination to truly live.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the purpose of a mediumship reading?

For me, the purpose of an evidential mediumship reading is to demonstrate that your loved ones continue after physical death. It's about offering evidence that love survives, bringing reassurance and reminding you that your relationship with the people you've lost hasn't ended. A reading isn't meant to solve every problem in your life—it's meant to open the door to a new understanding.

Should a mediumship reading change my life?

I hope it changes your perspective more than your circumstances. A powerful reading can help you see life differently, fear death a little less and appreciate the time you have with the people you love. The reading itself may only last an hour, but the way you choose to live afterwards can last a lifetime.

Why do I still have questions after a reading?

Because a mediumship reading isn't designed to answer every question you'll ever have. Spirit often reassure us that they're okay, but they don't usually hand us a complete blueprint for our future. Spiritual growth continues long after the reading has ended, and some questions are only answered through living.

Should I keep booking readings until I feel completely at peace?

Not necessarily. If you're booking repeated readings in the hope that one more will finally make everything feel okay, it may be worth asking whether you're looking for reassurance that you've already received. Mediumship can support your journey, but it isn't intended to become the destination.

What should I do after a powerful mediumship reading?

Give yourself time to process the experience. Reflect on what you've learned, journal if that helps, talk to trusted friends and notice how the reading has changed your outlook. Rather than immediately seeking more evidence, consider how you can bring the messages you've received into your everyday life.

Can mediumship help me trust my own intuition?

I believe it can. A meaningful reading often reminds people that Spirit are still present and that they're capable of building their own relationship with the Spirit world. Over time, many people begin to notice their own intuition, signs and inner knowing with greater confidence.

Why doesn't Spirit answer every question I ask?

Sometimes the greatest gift Spirit give us isn't certainty—it's the freedom to make our own choices. In my experience, they encourage us to live, learn and grow rather than directing every step we take. We still have free will, and part of being human is discovering who we become through the choices we make.

How do I know if a mediumship reading has truly helped me?

One of the biggest signs isn't that you immediately book another reading. It's that you begin living differently. You worry a little less, appreciate life a little more, trust your loved ones are still with you and feel more able to move forwards while carrying them in your heart.

Is mediumship the end of the spiritual journey?

I don't believe so. If anything, it's often the beginning. A reading can provide the reassurance that opens your heart to a much bigger journey of self-discovery, spiritual growth and living more intentionally. The evidence is important, but what you choose to do with that evidence is where the real transformation begins.
