Spirit Exist. Now What?

Imagine, for a moment, that all your questions have been answered.
You know your loved ones still exist.
You know death isn't the end.
You've had the evidential mediumship reading that changed everything.
You no longer hope there's life after death.
You know.
Now what?
It's a question I don't think we ask often enough.
We're so focused on proving that Spirit exist that we rarely stop to ask what that knowledge is actually supposed to change.
Because, for me, the reading was never meant to be the destination.
It's the beginning.
What should you do after a mediumship reading?
This is one of the biggest questions I wish more people asked.
People often arrive for an evidential reading hoping it will fix everything.
The grief.
The fear.
The uncertainty.
The longing.
And while a beautiful reading can bring enormous comfort, reassurance and peace...
It doesn't remove grief.
It doesn't erase loss.
It doesn't suddenly make life easy again.
Instead, I think it gives you something else.
A new starting point.
What changes when you know life continues?
Everything.
And nothing.
You still wake up the next morning.
You still have to go to work.
You still have to pay the bills.
You still miss the person you love.
But beneath all of that...
Something shifts.
The fear that they've disappeared begins to soften.
The desperate need to know they're okay begins to ease.
You stop wondering whether they're lost.
And you begin asking a different question.
"How do I want to live now?"
Can mediumship heal grief?
I don't believe mediumship heals grief.
I think grief is the price we pay for loving deeply.
No reading can remove that.
Nor should it.
Grief isn't something broken that needs fixing.
It's love looking for somewhere to go.
What mediumship can do is remove some of the fear.
The fear that your loved one suffered.
The fear that they've disappeared.
The fear that they're alone.
Those are extraordinary gifts.
But they aren't the end of the grieving journey.
They're the beginning of a different one.
Don't make the afterlife more important than this life
This is something I think about a lot.
As mediums, we spend our lives talking about Spirit.
About evidence.
About the continuation of consciousness.
About life after death.
But here's the irony.
The more convinced I've become that life continues...
The more precious this life has become.
Not less.
More.
Because this experience matters.
This lifetime matters.
This conversation matters.
The people sitting around your table tonight matter.
The walk with your dog.
The cup of tea.
The holiday you've been putting off.
The phone call you've been meaning to make.
All of it matters.
What do Spirit actually want for you?
After thousands of readings, I've noticed something.
Spirit very rarely talk about success.
Or status.
Or promotions.
Or money.
Instead, they talk about love.
Family.
Friendship.
Kindness.
Laughter.
Regret.
Forgiveness.
Presence.
Again and again, they gently point people back towards life.
Not away from it.
I've never had a Spirit communicator tell someone,
"Stop living until you see me again."
Quite the opposite.
The message is almost always,
"Live."
Why don't Spirit want you waiting for them?
This might sound surprising.
But I honestly don't believe your loved ones in Spirit want you spending the rest of your life waiting until you're reunited.
Of course they'll be there.
Of course you'll see them again.
But not yet.
You've still got your own story to write.
Your own memories to make.
Your own people to love.
Imagine how heart-breaking it would be if someone spent decades simply waiting for life to end because they believed something better was coming afterwards.
That doesn't honour this life.
Or the next one.
Stop asking for another reading
I know that's a strange thing for a medium to say.
Please don't misunderstand me.
I'm not saying never have another reading.
I'm asking something slightly different.
Before you book...
Pause.
Ask yourself why.
Are you looking for reassurance because something significant has happened?
Or are you hoping another reading will remove feelings that only time, support and living can soften?
Those are very different things.
The question Spirit keep asking
People often ask Spirit,
"Why am I here?"
They're hoping for a grand purpose.
A destiny.
A mission.
In all honesty...
I don't think that's usually the answer.
I think Spirit keep pointing us towards something much simpler.
Live.
Love.
Laugh.
Learn.
Be brave.
Be kind.
Tell people you love them.
Eat the chocolate cake.
Write the book.
Book the holiday.
Say yes.
Say no when you need to.
Stop waiting for permission to become yourself.
Perhaps purpose isn't something we're sent here to discover.
Perhaps it's something we create through the way we choose to live.
The greatest gift mediumship ever gave me
People often assume the greatest gift mediumship has given me is certainty that life continues after death.
It isn't.
The greatest gift mediumship has given me is the understanding that this life is astonishingly precious.
Every reading reminds me how quickly everything can change.
How many people never got to finish the plans they were making.
How many conversations ended without anyone realising they were the last.
That awareness could make me frightened.
Sometimes it does.
But more often...
It makes me grateful.
It reminds me to put my phone down.
To hug my family.
To walk the dogs.
To laugh until I cry.
To stop saving everything for "one day."
Because one day eventually becomes today.
Spirit exist. Now live.
If mediumship has taught me anything, it's this.
The purpose of proving life after death isn't so we become obsessed with dying.
It's so we become fully committed to living.
That's the invitation.
Not to spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder towards the Spirit world.
But to walk forwards.
Knowing that love hasn't ended.
Knowing that your loved ones are okay.
Knowing that when your own journey eventually comes to an end, you'll be welcomed home.
But until then...
Live.
Really live.
I honestly can't think of a more beautiful way to honour both this life...
...and the next.

This article is inspired by an episode of the Mediumship Matters podcast, where I explore a question that has become central to my own philosophy: if evidential mediumship proves our loved ones continue after death, what should we do with that knowledge?

Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do after a mediumship reading?
Take time to reflect on the experience rather than rushing to book another reading. Ask yourself what has changed now that you've received evidence your loved one continues to exist. The real value of an evidential reading isn't just proving life after death—it's considering how that knowledge might help you live this life with a little more peace and courage.
Does knowing life continues after death change grief?
It can change your relationship with grief, but it doesn't remove it. Missing someone you love is a natural part of being human. A meaningful mediumship reading can bring reassurance that your loved one is safe and still connected to you, but it won't erase the sadness of their physical absence.
What is the purpose of evidential mediumship?
For me, the purpose of evidential mediumship is to demonstrate that consciousness survives physical death and that love continues beyond it. Once you've received that reassurance, the invitation becomes asking how you'll live differently because of what you now know.
Why do I still feel sad after a good reading?
Because grief isn't a problem to be solved. A reading can answer questions about your loved one's wellbeing, but it can't replace the physical presence of someone you love. Feeling sad doesn't mean the reading wasn't genuine or meaningful—it simply means you're grieving.
Should I keep looking for more signs from Spirit?
Signs can be beautiful and comforting, but I don't think they should become something we rely on every day to feel okay. There comes a point where Spirit gently encourage us to trust what we already know and continue living our lives, rather than constantly seeking more reassurance.
What do our loved ones in Spirit want for us?
After thousands of readings, the message I hear most often isn't about waiting to be reunited. It's about living well now. Again and again, Spirit encourage people to love deeply, forgive, laugh, make memories and embrace the opportunities they still have in this lifetime.
Can mediumship tell me my life purpose?
Sometimes Spirit offer guidance or encouragement, but in my experience they rarely provide a detailed blueprint for your future. More often, they remind us to live with integrity, follow what feels meaningful and make the most of the life we've been given. Your purpose is something you create through the choices you make every day.
If I believe in the afterlife, should I be looking forward to it?
It's natural to find comfort in knowing you'll see your loved ones again one day. But I don't believe the afterlife is meant to distract us from the life we're living now. Knowing that life continues should inspire us to make the most of today, not spend our time waiting for tomorrow.
How can mediumship help me live a better life?
The greatest gift mediumship can offer isn't simply proof that life continues after death. It's the reminder that life is precious. When we truly understand that love survives death, we're often encouraged to live more fully, love more openly, worry a little less and stop putting off the things that matter most.
