Mediumship Matters Season 1 Episode 21

In this episode of Mediumship Matters, I talk about a side of spiritual development that’s rarely discussed honestly: the moments when growth feels uncomfortable, challenging, or even disruptive.

Many people come to spiritual or mediumship development hoping it will make life smoother, calmer, or easier to navigate. And while it can bring deep understanding and meaning, it doesn’t always arrive gently.

Sometimes development challenges us in ways we didn’t expect.

When Spiritual Growth Doesn’t Feel Peaceful

There’s a common belief that spiritual development should feel expansive, uplifting, or constantly affirming.

In reality, growth often:

  • highlights what isn’t working

  • brings buried fears or patterns to the surface

  • disrupts old coping mechanisms

  • asks for responsibility rather than reassurance

This doesn’t mean something has gone wrong. It usually means something real is happening.

Why Challenge Is Part of Development

Spiritual development isn’t about bypassing human experience.

It doesn’t exist to:

  • remove discomfort

  • protect us from difficult choices

  • keep everything feeling light

Instead, it often brings awareness to areas that need attention — relationships, boundaries, self-belief, or avoidance patterns we’ve relied on for a long time.

Growth creates contrast. And contrast can feel uncomfortable.

The Myth of “Punishment” or Being Tested

When life becomes difficult during development, it’s tempting to interpret it as punishment or failure.

In this episode, I talk about why this framing is unhelpful.

Spiritual development isn’t about:

  • being tested

  • being taught lessons through suffering

  • being singled out for hardship

It’s about becoming more conscious — and consciousness naturally brings clarity around what needs to change.

Awareness Changes How You Experience Life

As awareness deepens, it becomes harder to ignore things you once tolerated.

You may notice:

  • misaligned relationships

  • work that no longer fits

  • boundaries that need strengthening

  • behaviours that keep you stuck

This can feel unsettling, especially if you expected development to make everything feel easier rather than more honest.

Growth Doesn’t Always Feel Like Progress

One of the most important points in this episode is that progress doesn’t always feel positive in the moment.

Sometimes progress looks like:

  • frustration

  • grief

  • uncertainty

  • letting go

  • discomfort before clarity

These phases don’t mean you’re failing. They often mean you’re integrating something new.

Mediumship and Responsibility

In the context of mediumship, this kind of challenge is especially important.

Developing awareness doesn’t remove responsibility — it increases it.

With greater sensitivity comes:

  • the need for clearer boundaries

  • ethical discernment

  • honesty about motivation

  • accountability for how you use awareness

Spiritual development isn’t meant to make you feel special. It’s meant to make you more responsible.

When Things Feel Hard, Pause — Don’t Panic

A key takeaway from this episode is this: when development feels difficult, it’s usually not a sign to quit or push harder.

It’s often a sign to:

  • slow down

  • reflect

  • ground yourself

  • seek integration rather than expansion

Growth settles when it’s given space.

A More Honest View of Spiritual Development

Spiritual development isn’t a constant upward curve.

It moves through:

  • expansion and contraction

  • insight and confusion

  • clarity and discomfort

Understanding this removes a lot of unnecessary self-judgement.

You’re not doing it wrong just because it feels hard.

In Summary

Season 1, Episode 21 of Mediumship Matters offers an honest look at why spiritual development sometimes feels more challenging rather than easier.

Growth doesn’t arrive to protect us from life — it arrives to help us meet it more consciously.

Difficulty isn’t failure. It’s often the place where real integration begins.
