Why I Still Doubt Myself Sometimes (And Why That’s Okay)

Hello, beautiful souls! Today, I’m pulling back the curtain to share a little secret: I still doubt myself sometimes. Yep, even after years of connecting with spirit, teaching mediumship, and having all the “aha!” moments you’d think would banish self-doubt forever… it still shows up. And you know what? That’s totally okay.

The Myth of the “Fully Confident Medium”

There’s this idea floating around that once you’ve ‘arrived’ as a medium, you never doubt yourself again. Like you reach some mystical level where you float through life, radiating pure certainty and smug wisdom.

Spoiler alert: that level doesn’t exist. (And if it does, I’m still waiting for my membership card.)

Why Doubt Still Shows Up

  1. Because I Care: Doubt often comes from wanting to do my best. It’s not that I don’t trust spirit; it’s that I want to honour the connection, the message, and the person receiving it. That little voice whispering, “Was that good enough?” is really saying, “I care deeply.”

  2. Because Spirit Work Isn’t Black and White: Mediumship isn’t like solving a maths problem where there’s one right answer. It’s subtle, layered, and sometimes a bit wonky. Doubt creeps in when things don’t land as expected—even though spirit always knows what they’re doing.

  3. Because Growth Never Stops: The more you grow, the more you realise how much you don’t know. Doubt isn’t a sign you’re failing; it’s a sign you’re expanding beyond your comfort zone.

Why It’s Okay to Doubt Yourself

  1. Doubt Keeps You Humble: Imagine if I walked around thinking, “I’m the greatest medium ever!” Yikes. Doubt keeps me grounded, curious, and open to learning.

  2. It Builds Resilience: Every time I work through doubt and show up anyway, I strengthen my confidence. Not because the doubt disappears, but because I learn it doesn’t control me.

  3. It’s Part of Being Human: Doubt isn’t a flaw; it’s part of the package deal of having a human brain. It’s how we respond to it that matters.

How I Work Through Doubt (Without Spiralling into Existential Crisis Mode)

  1. I Talk to Spirit: Yep, I literally say, “Okay, spirit, was that really you?” Spoiler: it always was. Spirit’s patient like that.

  2. I Reflect, Not Ruminate: There’s a difference between learning from an experience and overthinking it to death. I try (emphasis on try) to stick with reflection.

  3. I Lean on My Community: Surrounding myself with like-minded souls reminds me that doubt is normal. We all have wobbles, and sharing them makes them feel less overwhelming.

  4. I Celebrate the Wins: Keeping a record of validations and powerful connections helps me anchor back into the truth when doubt tries to take over.

Final Thoughts

Doubt doesn’t mean you’re not good enough. It means you’re human. It means you care. And it means you’re still growing—which, let’s be honest, is the whole point of this spiritual journey.

So, if you find yourself doubting, take a deep breath and remind yourself: You don’t have to be doubt-free to be powerful. You just have to keep showing up.
