The Truth About Premonitions: Are They Real or Just Coincidence?

Have you ever had a sudden thought, out of nowhere, that something was going to happen—only for it to actually happen?
You think about an old friend, and they text you minutes later. You get a weird feeling about a trip, and then the car breaks down. Or, if you’re like one of my students, you’re in the shower casually predicting the exact moment your husband spills an entire curry everywhere.
Yep. Premonitions.
They’re fascinating, they’re bizarre, and yet… we only seem to remember the ones that actually come true.
So, what’s going on here? Are premonitions real, or is this just our brains doing what brains do—picking patterns and looking for meaning? And more importantly, do they predict the future, or do we have the power to change what we see?
Let’s break it down.
Why We Only Remember the Premonitions That Come True
Here’s the thing about premonitions: we have way more of them than we realize.
We’re constantly picking up on energy, thoughts, and possible outcomes—most of which we completely forget because nothing happens.
🔹 You randomly think about a car crash? Nothing happens. Forgotten.🔹 You get a weird feeling about a trip? It goes fine. Forgotten.🔹 You suddenly worry your boss will fire you? He doesn’t. Forgotten.
But the one time you think about something and it actually happens?
💥 “I KNEW IT! I’M PSYCHIC!”
Our brains are masters of selective memory. We naturally focus on the things that stand out, which is why it seems like the premonitions that come true are way more common than they actually are.
This doesn’t mean that premonitions aren’t real—just that we need to be aware of how our brains filter our experiences.
Are Premonitions Set in Stone?
Short answer: Nope.
Long answer: Premonitions are a perception of energy—not a fixed, unchangeable future.
Think of it like this: Imagine you’re standing on a hill, looking at a road below. You see two cars speeding towards each other from opposite directions. Based on their trajectory, you think:
"They’re going to crash!"
At that moment, you’re predicting a possible future. But… what if one car slows down? What if one driver swerves? Suddenly, the crash doesn’t happen.
Premonitions work the same way.
🔹 Sometimes, you’re picking up on the strongest energetic potential of what’s coming.🔹 Sometimes, what you see actually happens because no major changes were made.🔹 And sometimes, energy shifts, and the outcome changes.
So, just because you sense something coming doesn’t mean it’s guaranteed to happen.
This is why you can have a premonition that never comes true—because either you misinterpreted the energy, or something shifted before it could happen.
The Problem with Thinking Premonitions = Fate
Here’s where things get tricky.
Some people believe that if you have a premonition, it’s 100% destined to happen.
That’s dangerous thinking—because it removes free will.
🔹 If premonitions were set in stone, what’s the point of spiritual growth?🔹 If we had no control, why would spirit even bother guiding us?
Spirit doesn’t work that way. You are not a passive observer in your own life.
Even if you do have a premonition, you can always influence the outcome.
How to Work with Premonitions (Instead of Freaking Out Over Them)
Rather than seeing premonitions as scary predictions, treat them as helpful insights.
Here’s how:
1. Recognize That You Have More Premonitions Than You Realize
Start paying attention. If you have a random thought or feeling about something, write it down.
Over time, you’ll see that you’re picking up on energy constantly—not just when something dramatic happens.
2. Don’t Get Stuck in Fear-Based Thinking
Premonitions are not there to scare you.
If you see something negative, don’t assume it’s unchangeable. Instead, ask:
"How can I shift this energy?"
For example:🔹 If you sense an argument brewing, approach the situation differently.🔹 If you get a bad feeling about a trip, double-check your plans.🔹 If you dream about something unsettling, don’t assume the worst—look for the lesson.
3. Understand the Difference Between Psychic Knowing and Anxiety
This is a big one. Is it intuition, or is it just fear?
A real premonition often comes with:✅ A calm, matter-of-fact feeling (not panic, just awareness).✅ A sense of clarity (even if you don’t understand why you know it).✅ No emotional attachment—it just is.
Anxiety, on the other hand, is usually:❌ Overthinking, cycling thoughts.❌ Tied to your own fears and insecurities.❌ A general feeling of dread rather than specific insight.
4. If You Don’t Want Premonitions, Set Boundaries with Spirit
Not everyone wants random downloads of future events. And guess what?
You don’t have to accept them.
Just like with mediumship, you can set clear boundaries with spirit.
Try saying: "Thank you for guiding me, but I only want premonitions that are useful and empowering."
Spirit respects your free will. If you don’t want the constant updates, turn off notifications.
Final Thoughts: Are Premonitions Real?
Yes. But not in the way Hollywood makes them out to be.
Premonitions are not:❌ A fixed, unchangeable destiny.❌ A dramatic warning from the universe.❌ A mystical superpower that only some people have.
They are:✅ A way of perceiving potential outcomes.✅ A reflection of current energy (not necessarily future reality).✅ A skill that everyone has—but most people ignore.
So, if you get premonitions, don’t panic.
See them for what they are: a glimpse of what’s possible, not what’s inevitable.
And the next time you have a weirdly specific thought about a takeaway disaster? Maybe just tell your husband to be careful with the curry.
