Mediumship Matters Podcast — Season 1, Episode 15

Neon sign "BE REASONABLE" glows on brick wall. Clothes hang on a rack; shoes displayed on a shelf. Warm, cozy atmosphere.

In this episode of Mediumship Matters, I recorded my very first live podcast — answering real questions, in real time, about mediumship, spirituality, discernment, and responsibility.

What unfolded was a wide-ranging, honest conversation about integration, ego, fear, spiritual development, and what it actually means to work ethically with the spirit world. This episode is especially helpful for anyone navigating spiritual growth while trying to stay grounded, human, and responsible.

Why Integration Matters More Than Information

One of the central themes in this episode is integration.

Spiritual development isn’t just about opening up, learning techniques, or having experiences. It’s about integrating those experiences into your life — emotionally, psychologically, and ethically.

Growth often comes through discomfort, not clarity. The lessons that change us most rarely arrive neatly or painlessly.

The Responsibility of Spiritual Work

I speak openly in this episode about something that can feel uncomfortable but is important to address: responsibility.

Opening up spiritually doesn’t automatically make someone ready to guide, teach, or advise others. Development takes time, reflection, and inner work.

Without integration, spiritual language can become a way of avoiding personal responsibility rather than embodying growth.

Ego, Validation, and “Spiritual Performance”

We also talk about ego — not as something shameful, but as something to be recognised.

Ego often shows up as:

  • the need for validation

  • offering advice that hasn’t been asked for

  • presenting certainty too early

  • confusing insight with authority

True spiritual work doesn’t require constant reassurance or applause. When integrity is present, validation becomes less necessary.

Mediumship Is Hard Work (And That’s OK)

One of the most honest parts of this episode is acknowledging that mediumship isn’t easy.

It requires:

  • emotional awareness

  • boundaries

  • humility

  • commitment

  • ongoing self-reflection

There’s no shortcut through that process. Mediumship will press your buttons — and that’s part of the work, not a sign you’re doing it wrong.

Fear, Anxiety, and Spiritual Sensitivity

Many of the questions in this episode revolve around fear — fear of being wrong, fear of imagination, fear of negative experiences, fear of judgement.

I share my perspective that the spirit world itself is not something to fear. What often feels frightening is unintegrated emotion, anxiety, or misunderstanding.

Grounding, self-care, and emotional healing are foundational — not optional extras.

Guidance vs Ego: Learning the Difference

Another important distinction explored is the difference between guidance and ego.

Guidance tends to feel:

  • calm

  • supportive

  • loving

  • non-urgent

Ego often feels:

  • critical

  • pressured

  • fearful

  • demanding

Learning to recognise that difference comes with time and experience — not rules.

Boundaries, Ethics, and Unasked-for Advice

A strong thread throughout this episode is boundaries.

Working ethically with spirituality means:

  • respecting free will

  • not projecting beliefs onto others

  • not offering guidance unless invited

  • knowing when something is personal, not universal

Spiritual insight doesn’t give permission to override someone else’s autonomy.

The Long Game of Spiritual Development

This episode reinforces something I return to often: spiritual development is a lifelong process.

There’s no finish line, no moment of being “done”, and no need to rush. Curiosity, honesty, and humility matter far more than certainty.
